NGS Banquet - Friday 18th May
"Welcome to the Virginia Colony"
Richard A. Cheatham, an actual living descendant of John Rolfe and Pocahontas, will portray John Rolfe greeting new arrivals to Jamestown from England. Rolfe will talk about many of the important events that preceeded their arrival and many of the important individuals who played a part in the founding of Jamestown in 1607 and during the next several years. Richard will also answer questions that John Rolfe would not have been able to answer.

BCG Education Fund Workshop:
Putting Skills to Work: Planning and Reporting Research Plan to attend the second all-day Board for Certification of Genealogists Education Fund Workshop as part of your conference experience. Scheduled as a special event for Tuesday, 15th May, the workshop will offer hands-on practice in the important genealogical skills.
An additional registration fee of $90 is required to attend (see registration form). The fee includes lunch and a syllabus. You do NOT have to register for the conference to attend this event. Be sure to register early as attendance is limited to 60 people.
Evening Host Event: An Evening at the Virginia Historical Society - Thursday 17th May
$39 per person
6-9pm Cash Bar - with cocktail hors d'oeuvres (Virginia ham biscuits, Virginia hot crab dip with crackers, fresh fruit sections, fresh vegetable crudite and grilled vegetable display).
6:30-8:30pm Supper Buffet- Carved beef brisket, Parker House rolls, Dijonaise, Virginia barbeque sauce, crisp coleslaw, succotash and stewed Hanover tomatoes, oven browned red bliss potatoes, chicken Florentine with bow tie pasta, Shenandoah apple parfait. Water, coffee and tea.
Participants will be able to view the multi-faceted exhibits at the Virginia Historical Society - The Story of Virginia: An American Experience - at their leisure. This multi-gallery exhibition covers 16,000 years of Virginia history from prehistoric times to the present. Paintings, maps, historic photographs, prints, manuscripts, documents, flags, weapons, books, movie posters, everyday artifacts, large-scale vehicles and items associated with the famous - from Pocahontas to Arthur Ashe, as well as the not so famous - are assembled in a powerful historic chronicle - www.vahistorical.org/storyofvirginia.htm

Continual bus transportation will be provided between the Convention Center and VHS 5:45 -9pm.
The Gift Shop at the Virginia Historical Society will be open especially for this event and all participants will receive a 10% discount on purchases. The Gift Shop will also put out additional stock - including antiquarian books for attendees.
